V-Trainer Ready to Fly
I received my V-Trainer the day before yesterday and it was ready to fly after 5 minutes work and a battery charge. Today was the first chance I had to fly it and I'm pleased to say that I'm back in the air after many years away from the hobby. After spending a lot of time flying an RC sim, I was surprised how nervous I was for the first flight, the sim isn't quite like the real thing! At three-quarters throttle the V-Trainer leaped into the sky and I was initially surprised by it's speed and responsiveness. After a climb to a safe height and calming down my over-controlling, the V-Trainer flew very well. At half throttle it easily made headway in the light breeze and full throttle produce a good rate of climb that needed some nose down trim to keep it in check. After about 5 minutes and some low passes, I made an acceptable, it somewhat untidy power-off landing. As there was plenty of power left in the battery, I launched for a second flight which included a loop and a much nicer landing.
I recharged the battery and had a much more relaxed flight this afternoon. With the first flight nerves out of the way, I enjoyed a very pleasant 10 minute flight (I think that there was more in the battery, but I wanted power available for the landing!) and pulled off an excellent landing. I know that the V-Trainer is just that - a trainer - but it's what I need to build up my confidence and flying skills before moving onto something more adventurous - like a HyperFlea.
I've got a Bongo on order for bit of indoor flying at my local club, so that will be the next project.
Thanks Flyingwings
